Granular rubber flooring, also known as granular flooring, is famous for its durability and ability to withstand heavy foot traffic. Unlike tatami mats, which are suitable for indoor environments, rubber flooring can be used in tough, harsh, and outdoor environments. The resistance and long lifespan of rubber flooring make it suitable for parks, metro entrances, gyms, parking lots, schoolyards, kindergartens, hospitals, and more. Since these floorings are resistant to sunlight, snow, and rain, they can be used in any city or location with various weather conditions.
Most commonly, rubber flooring is used in sports halls as sports flooring and in parks, but nowadays, owners of modern homes are also showing a lot of interest in using these floorings. The wide variety of colors and designs available allows you to implement any design you like in different parts of your home, from the kitchen to the rooms. In fact, there is no space where this product cannot be harmonized or used.
The materials used in the construction of different types of rubber flooring can vary depending on their type, which affects their quality. For example, this flooring can be made from recycled materials or pure natural rubber from trees. The advantages of these floorings include their wide range of colors and designs, allowing you to create any design you imagine. Granular flooring is completely waterproof and can be cleaned with a damp mop indoors or washed with water outdoors.
Reasons to Use Rubber Flooring:
Safety and Anti-Slip: Compared to other floorings such as carpet, wood flooring, ceramic, etc., rubber flooring prevents slipping and falling.
Comfort and Noise Reduction: Noise caused by walking and traffic is minimized, and the soft rubber base prevents fatigue.
Maintenance: Rubber flooring requires less maintenance than other types of flooring. It is scratch-resistant and can be easily cleaned with various cleaners.
Variety of Colors: Available in a wide range of colors, it can significantly change the appearance of a room.
Thick and Shock-Absorbing Rubber Flooring for Gyms
The main reason for choosing thick rubber flooring for gyms where hard activities like bodybuilding are performed and heavy equipment is used is its thickness, weight-bearing capacity, high resistance, and anti-shock and anti-slip properties. In addition, thick rubber flooring is more suitable for parks than thinner types.
Anti-Slip Rubber Flooring
Anti-slip rubber flooring prevents or minimizes slipping on a particular surface. Technically, this surface is covered with a material (in this case, rubber) that increases friction on the surface to enhance grip and resist slipping.
Applications of Rubber Flooring
Rubber flooring is most commonly used in sports halls, hospitals, and schools due to the safety it provides in high-traffic environments. In schools where hundreds of children are running and walking daily, interior designers must consider the safety and noise reduction of the environment, especially for elementary schools and kindergartens where children are more active. Sports clubs often choose rubber flooring due to its safety and shock absorption benefits. Thanks to the structure of rubber, it can absorb the shock of weights and withstand the weight of heavy equipment. When everyone is sweating in hot yoga and the floor is splashed with sweat or spilled water bottles, its moisture resistance helps. The tread of a step is the horizontal part of each step. Good stair tread flooring can help prevent slipping and falling. Because of its safety features, rubber is often recommended for commercial stair treads, even if the rest of the flooring is made of different materials.
Did you know that rubber flooring is also used in elevators?
Since elevator usage is high in a building, walking on it will also be high. Therefore, elevator flooring should have the following characteristics:
Be durable.
Easy to clean.
Easily replaceable.
Match the aesthetics of the location where it is installed, etc.
In the past, elevator floor coverings were mainly made of metal due to durability, but the demand for comfort and attractiveness led to a decline in the use of these metal floors. Rubber elevator flooring, with all the above features and other advantages, has become a good alternative to metal flooring.
Rubber Flooring for Rooftops
If you are looking for suitable flooring for your rooftop or roof garden, you can use rubber roofing flooring with a thickness of 20 mm. This flooring is both beautiful and high-quality for this purpose. Direct sunlight, snow, or rain will not damage it, and you can be confident in the durability of the floor for many years.
Types of Rubber Flooring
Rubber flooring comes in two types: roll and puzzle.
Rolled Rubber Flooring
Alongside tile floorings, rolled rubber floorings are produced in specific widths and thicknesses and sold by the meter. Rolled rubber flooring, like tile flooring, is used for various applications to protect floors, resist slipping, and improve traction. Each rubber roll is designed for commercial use and is made with high-quality materials. Rubber rolls are used in sports halls, garages, hallways, warehouses, industrial facilities, and many different commercial and even residential applications. In terms of quality and application, there is no difference from tile flooring.
Rubber Park Flooring
Children love bright colors. Rubber park flooring comes in a wide range of colors, varieties, and thicknesses, which can be customized with vibrant colors and logos. Combining these colors creates an attractive space where children enjoy playing. The sound absorption capability of rubber flooring minimizes noise issues and significantly reduces noise from children’s play. How to Install Rubber Flooring?
Whether it’s rolled or puzzle (interlocking) flooring, you must first prepare the installation site. The installation site must be level. Therefore, first, eliminate any unevenness if the desired surface is uneven. After ensuring the floor is level, clean the surface.
Installing Interlocking or Tiled Rubber Flooring:
Lay the mats loosely in the desired installation location to visualize their appearance, and rearrange the pattern by rotating or moving the floorings until the desired design is achieved. Start with the first row of tiles and continue until you reach the other corner. Then, move to the next row and the next, aligning the edge pieces until the last piece. If part of the area is smaller than the flooring size, measure the area with a ruler and cut the flooring to size. Then, place the flooring in its place. After arranging the floorings, glue them together using adhesive. For a better understanding of how to install interlocking rubber flooring, watch the instructional video.
Installing Rolled Rubber Flooring:
The most challenging part of installing rubber rolls is cutting the sheets to fit correctly without gaps. Be very careful when cutting, and always use a ruler and a utility knife with a fresh blade. Place the rubber rolls on the floor as desired. Align the roll with the wall and check at the end to see how much excess needs to be trimmed, then roll it back and cut the excess at the end of each section with a utility knife. To ensure the cut is not too much and the roll reaches the end of the wall, cut a little at a time. For the last row, measure the remaining surface and mark the roll with chalk. Cut the rolled flooring with a utility knife using a ruler and these marks, then place it in the desired location. Finally, use double-sided tape to adhere the start and end of the rolled flooring to the floor to prevent it from moving.
Cleaning Rubber Flooring
Rubber naturally contains wax, which slowly and continuously rises to the surface of the floor. This means you don’t have to wax rubber floors; they wax themselves! Microfiber pads on an automatic scrubber keep the rubber clean while spreading the wax. Due to this natural wax, chemical cleaners must be chosen carefully. For example, using a degreaser might break down the natural wax of the rubber. To keep rubber clean, you do not need strong chemicals. We recommend a diluted neutral cleaner with warm water or just warm water.
